Akani Properties Enhances Security at Winifred Mandela Precinct Ahead of Festive Season
Johannesburg, 1 October 2024 – Akani Properties, the property management company for the Winifred Mandela Precinct, formerly known as Nicolway Shopping Centre, is implementing enhanced security measures in response to a recent robbery at the Bryanston Jewellers store. A 12-member gang, armed with machine guns, executed the theft, taking an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery and watches.
Mr. Zamani Letjane, Akani Group Chairman, stated: “The safety and well-being of our tenants and patrons is our top priority. We are grateful to our response unit which acted swiftly to prevent any loss of life and further damage to property during this incident.”
To further bolster security, an armed response unit equipped with automatic weapons will be stationed permanently near the Precinct to ensure rapid action against any suspected criminal activity. This will be complementary to the armed security guards, both in plain clothes and uniforms, patrolling the premises.
As we approach the festive season, it is important to note that incidents of crime and theft tend to rise, with malls and shopping centres often becoming prime targets for criminals.
“Investigations into this robbery are currently underway, and we will provide updates on any developments via the Precinct’s social media platforms.” added Letjane.
